Notre Dame Cathedral Tips

By Sorin Olexiuc in Paris  |  1 year ago  |  0 comments

One the finest example of Gothic architecture anywhere in the world. You shouldn't wait too long to enter the cathedral (no admission charged). You might find a mass going on and people praying so stay quiet and don't use flash.

A do not miss is the tower climb (entrance located to the left of Notre Dame as you are facing it). The view of Paris from the top is one of the best. There are 387 steps to reach the bell tower and no elevator, so you must be in good shape! Entrance fee is €8 per person. The queue can be pretty long as they only allow 20 people in every 10 minutes. So be sure you get there early.

Ah, one more thing: just say "non" to the numerous gypsies that ask you if you speak English. They will leave if you say no.

Paris Transportation

By Anne Parois in Paris  |  1 year ago  |  0 comments

A carnet of ten tickets (11.60 euros for central Paris), valid on metro, RER, bus and tram, is cheaper than buying individual tickets (1.60 euros). Tickets should be validated when you get onto the bus or go through the metro barrier. Hold onto your ticket in case of spot inspections and to get out of RER stations.

Metro is open from 5.30am to 0.30am, extended until around 1am on Friday and Saturday nights.

Louvre for less

By Anne Parois in Paris  |  1 year ago  |  0 comments

The Louvre is free the first Sunday of every month, but everybody knows this - so the queues are vast. But you can visit it at half the price on Wednesday and Friday evenings, between 6 and 9:45pm.

Dear friends from abroad, don't worry if you don't know how much to tip in France!

The tip is included in the check note and represents 15% of the amount.

If you're satisfied with the services, you can leave a few coins on the table, depending also on the total check.

Free hot spots in Paris

By Chloe Battaglia in Paris  |  1 year ago  |  0 comments

It is not a secret anymore that Paris has free internet hot spots in all parks and public gardens. Yuppy yey!

So, if before we rather went to a café to surf on the internet and catch up of Facebook or Twitter, now we can do it on a bench in the park, while smelling the flowers and watch kids play. Thanks to Mairie de Paris, Jardin de Luxembourg, Tuileries or les Halles are now fitted with wi-fi connection, Spell [wee-fee], please!

I browsed the net and I found this map with all hot spots available in Paris.

You can also get directions on the site, there are specific signs indicating the hot spot:

The wi-fi zone is available from 7am to 11pm, the connection is called Wi-Fi ORANGE.

In order to catch this wi-fi connection, open a browser and type any address. You are automatically redirected to the portal. Once on the homepage of the service, click on "SELECTIONNEZ VOTRE PASS" , fill out the form, accept the terms and conditions of the service and sign in. On the homepage, you will see the elapsed time session (you have 2 hours of continuous connection), You can reconnect to the network with no extra conditions. You will just be asked to sign again.
